Edge & Profiles

Bevelled Edge Profile
Bevelled Edge Profile

A bevel edge has a flat, square face with a 45-degree cut along the top front edge. The 45-degree notches are cut into the stone’s face to create a clean, angled detail. Bevel edges appear to be cut deeper as the bevel is larger. Additionally, you can have a 3mm 45-degree polished cut as well, which is generally referred to as an Ares Edge.

Round Pencil Edge Profile

The Round Pencil is the most popular option for kitchen worktops, but it can serve in vanity tops, upstands, and splashbacks to create a clean modern aesthetic. Round Pencil features a square flat face with the top edge slightly radiused for softness. In some cases, the radius is extended further, creating the look of a quarter-round granite edge.

Half Bullnose Profile

The Half Bullnose, sometimes called a round-over edge, has a softened rounded "top" edge in place of a sharp square cut. This style lends a soft curve instead of a square end, while exposing a larger cross-sectional area of the stone and showing its thickness and natural beauty.

Ogee Edge Profile

The Ogee edge provides a smooth “S” curve when viewed from the side, creating depth and elegance to the stone. Often regarded as the most ornate choice offered by granite makers, this edge profile lends itself to a classic, traditional appearance.

Boston Profile

The Boston profile boasts a durable, classic finish that pairs the best with traditional farmhouse kitchens. This has become a favourite choice for people seeking a more detailed edge, as it represents refinement, character, and artfulness in the overall appearance.

Chamfer Profile

Chamfer edges offer the illusion of a thinner edge while retaining the full strength of the stone. This clean, modern profile is often more popular in kitchen worktops than it is for vanity tops, upstands, and splashbacks but delivers a clean modern finish in all applications.

Shark Nose Profile

The Shark Nose profile is an excellent choice of edge for contemporary handleless kitchens with thin worktops, and the chamfer gives the impression of having an even thinner surface underneath, whilst offering great durability. Generally finished with a small radius, the edge not only looks aesthetically pleasing, but also allows fingers to slip easily behind the door slot, acting as a range of built-in handle.

Triple Edge Profile
Triple Edge Profile

The Triple Edge profile is like a demi-bullnose edge with a beveled notch on the top side that provides added depth and character. Fabricators can develop the Triple Waterfall and other embodiments of the Triple Edge profile with special routing bits. Skilled stone fabricators always combine and laminate varied and different profiles and these are great sources for inspired ideas. If a stone edge looks more rustic or natural is the way to go, the edge can be chiseled to simulate the look of stone that has naturally broken. The chisel finish can be implemented either by hand or pneumatic power tools. After chiseling, the edge can then be lightly sanded and buffed with a clear coat if you want to bring out some shine while ridding the organic aspect.
